How to get your horse in The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited? Well the answer may be a tone of pain and suffering, or alternatively a crisp $20 bill. Then what's your choice? No matter what you choose, you should learn more about the horse first. Here is the guide for horse in ESO:

Horses - The Stamina Solution

You'll find when you're sprinting that you often run out of stamina and in the process, are unable to attack without resting when you reach your destination. Horses on the hand start off with a very minor speed increase (just 15%) before you level them up, however, they have their own stamina bar. This means that as you sprint around, you're not using your own stamina. If you get dismounted or have to fight, you will have a full stamina bar ready to go.

This is really important and the primary use of a horse early on, before you get their speed to 30% or more, where they're actually faster than just walking around.

Imperial Horse

If you have the Imperial Edition, starting at the very start of the game after Coldharbor, you simply find a stable, pay 1 gold piece, and you have the Imperial Horse which will let you travel 15% faster and has 10 stamina. This doesn't seem like a lot, but you can feed them to improve them.

It has the same stats as the common horse.

Common Horses

If you're not an Imperial Edition holder, you'll need to save 17,200 Gold to purchase the lowest tier horse. At 42,700 gold you can purchase a specialty horse:

Light - Speed

Gaited - Stamina

Draft - Carrying Capacity

As they level up, they will have more of the primary stat that is affiliated with them.

The common horse is very expensive and it is honestly worth the $20 real life price for the Imperial Edition in order to get the Imperial Horse. Because the faster you obtain a horse, the faster you can start leveling it.

Additional Horses

You can purchase additional horses in the crown store for a fee. Unreleased horses have not been released yet, but will most likely be in the crown store.

Leveling up Horses

In Tamriel Unlimited, you level your riding skill by paying 250 gold once per day to either add 1% speed, 1 stamina, or 1 capacity every 24 hours. This is character based, not account bound. You can increase each stat by 60%, but only once per day (or 20 hour cooldown basically).

Every 20 hours, you can feed an individual horse with either Apples (1% speed), Hay (1 Stamina), or Oats (1 capacity). I suggest maxing out speed as fast as possible, but it's up to you how you want to level your mount. Each feeding will cost 250 gold. This is horse based and you can feed multiple horses at a time, and mounts are account wide.

A horse can be fed up to 50 times, maxing out at level 50. After 20 points have been added to a stat, a horse will upgrade apperance.

Other Horse Facts

Horses do not like water and will dismount if you enter any kind of lake or body of water.

Horses do not like caves or dungeons, you can't use them inside, and will dismount you whenever you enter somewhere they do not like.

You can own several horses at the same time, this is useful if you want to have a horse for carrying capacity and travel, and another slot to train an additional horse so you're not having to downgrade in order to upgrade once you've finished feeding it.

If you have the Imperial Edition, you can purchase multiple imperial horses and feed one for carrying capacity and one for speed.

You can sell horses once you've purchased them to clear up stable space.

Avoid using waypoints / wayshrines early on to help save for the 17k required for your first horse. It's a lot of money and it's tough to farm it all, especially with waypoints sometimes costing several hundred gold a go. You get free travel from one waypoint to another, so it's always best to just walk to a waypoint and then travel.

The default key to summon your mount is H.
