The Elder Scrolls Online is preparing to introduce the Nowhere Vault with Update 51, adding a new PvE activity that puts more emphasis on puzzles, exploration, movement, and hidden secrets rather than traditional combat. The activity supports solo players as well as groups, with randomized rooms and multiple paths that can make each run different.

The Nowhere Vault is scheduled to arrive with ESO Update 51 on September 28, 2026. Before launch, here is everything currently known about the new activity, including how the Vault works, what rewards are available, and where players can get the Wondrous Nowhere Keys needed to explore it.

What Is the ESO Nowhere Vault?

The Nowhere Vault is a new exploration-focused PvE experience located outside the normal world of Tamriel. Rather than sending players through a straightforward combat encounter, the Vault features randomized rooms filled with puzzles, traps, traversal challenges, stealth sections, and other objectives.

The overall structure may feel familiar to players who have explored the Infinite Archive, but the two activities have an important difference. The Nowhere Vault puts much less emphasis on continuous combat and instead asks players to pay attention to their surroundings and figure out how to progress through each area.

Players can explore the Vault alone or with a group. Group play can make the resource requirements easier to manage because Wondrous Nowhere Key usage is shared when opening certain areas and rewards.

How Does the Nowhere Vault Work?

The Vault contains three wings, and players can unlock and explore them in different orders. Each wing contains a series of rooms, with the exact layout and challenges changing between runs.

Inside these rooms, players may encounter:

Puzzle challenges that require observation and problem-solving. 
Traversal sections involving jumps, platforms, or dangerous terrain. 
Stealth and awareness challenges that reward careful movement. 
Hidden secrets and secondary objectives that can lead to additional rewards. 
Treasure rooms and resource nodes that provide extra loot. 
Checkpoints that allow players to continue their progress without restarting the entire Vault.

The activity is designed for replayability. Players can also discover maps inside the Vault that help them navigate specific areas once they become more familiar with its layout.

How Many Wondrous Nowhere Keys Do You Need?

Wondrous Nowhere Keys are an important part of the Nowhere Vault. Players need them to access different parts of the activity and open its special chests.

The current structure requires keys for several stages of progression. Players need one key to enter the Vault, while additional keys are required to unlock the three wings and their challenge rooms. More keys may then be needed to open the various Nowhere Chests found during exploration.

This makes key farming an important part of preparing for the Vault. Fortunately, Update 51 has expanded the sources for these keys and increased their availability compared with the earlier PTS versions.

How to Farm Wondrous Nowhere Keys?

Players can obtain Wondrous Nowhere Keys from several activities outside the Vault. One of the more reliable options is the Favor system, where characters can earn keys through specific quest completions.

Other potential sources include Thieves Troves, treasure chests, safeboxes, Thieves Guild-related activities, dynamic encounters, delves, world bosses, and solo content. The exact availability and drop rates have been adjusted during the Update 51 PTS cycle, so some sources may become more useful after the live launch.

What Rewards Can Get From the Nowhere Vault?

The reward pool is one of the main reasons players may want to spend time exploring the Vault. Current information points to several different reward categories, including curated gear, trial set pieces, tradable antiquity leads, furnishing recipes, crafting materials, Archival Fortunes, and skill style fragments.

The curated gear is particularly notable because the Vault can provide equipment from several sets without simply repeating pieces a player already has in their collection. Some chests are also designed around different types of rewards.

Players can also work toward an exclusive mount by completing the required Nowhere Vault achievements and uncovering its secrets.

The Nowhere Vault will introduce a different type of PvE experience to ESO, combining exploration, puzzles, movement challenges, secrets, and rewards in a randomized environment.
