The Elder Scrolls Online is preparing for another major round of changes with Update 52 and Season Three, bringing new activities, gameplay improvements, and quality-of-life features for players to explore. From a new alliance-based PvP zone to dynamic world encounters and expanded housing options, the upcoming content aims to give different types of players more reasons to return to Tamriel.
Update 52 is scheduled to launch on January 19, 2027, followed by Season Three on January 27, 2027. Both releases will introduce several notable additions, including new combat mechanics, housing improvements, companion customization options, and a brand-new home in Eastmarch.

One of the biggest additions in Season Three is Jerall Pass, a new open-world PvPvE zone designed around three competing alliances. The area features large-scale 40v40v40 battles, offering a smaller and more focused alternative to the familiar Cyrodiil experience.
Players will be able to explore the region, challenge named bosses, capture strategic resources, and fight for control of Fanthor Keep, the zone's central fortress. Beneath the keep, another major challenge awaits: the Pyre Lord. Players can choose to battle this powerful creature or attempt to tame it and bring it to their side.
Jerall Pass will also feature repeatable quests that reward Gold, Alliance Points, and a new regional currency called Jerall Marks. These marks can be exchanged for rewards such as style pages, Mythic Item Leads, and Supply Crates. The crates will also play an important role in maintaining the keep and other resources throughout the zone.

Update 52 will introduce Rimegales, a new type of dynamic world encounter appearing in the eastern regions of Skyrim. Players can find these events in The Rift and Eastmarch, with different activation schedules depending on the zone. Rimegales begin every hour in The Rift and every half hour in Eastmarch.
While a Rimegale is active, it replaces all Dark Anchors in the affected zone, giving players a different world event to participate in. Completing the encounter requires three main objectives.
First, players must collect Logs and deliver them to the nearby bonfires to build and light them. Next, they need to defeat the Rime Giants threatening the area. Finally, they must destroy the Rimegale Spear to finish the encounter. Once all three objectives are completed, a reward chest will appear for participants to loot.

Housing is another major focus of the upcoming update. A new feature called Furniture Streaming will increase furnishing capacity in Classic and Notable homes, allowing players to create more detailed interiors and elaborate decorations.
For Classic Homes, the traditional furnishing limit will increase to 300 slots for standard players and 600 for ESO+ members. Special Furnishing slots will rise to 5 and 10 respectively, while Collectible slots will increase to 30 and 60. Special Collectible capacity will also double from 5 to 10 slots.
Notable Homes will receive even larger limits. Traditional Furnishing capacity will reach 700 slots for standard players and 1,400 for ESO+ members. Special Furnishing slots will increase to 10 and 20, Collectible slots will reach 110 and 220, and Special Collectible capacity will rise to 10 and 20.
These improvements should give housing enthusiasts considerably more freedom when building themed spaces, creating detailed environments, and displaying their favorite collectibles.
Tank players can also look forward to several changes designed to make group combat more manageable. Update 52 improves multiple skills and sets that help tanks control enemy groups and protect their teammates.
The Unstoppable Heavy Armor skill and its morphs will gain an AoE Taunt. Goading Smash and Goading Vault will also receive this functionality, making it easier to maintain enemy attention during encounters with multiple targets.
The Tormentor Set is receiving an important adjustment as well. Instead of taunting only the first enemy hit, it will now taunt all enemies affected. Meanwhile, Inner Beast will become an AoE Pull, giving tanks another useful way to gather enemies together.
Together, these changes should make tanking more flexible and improve the overall experience in group content.
Players interested in collecting properties will have another location to look forward to. Update 52 introduces Shimmerfrost Vale, a new house located in Eastmarch.
Its snowy regional setting makes it an interesting addition to the game's growing housing selection. Combined with the increased furnishing limits, the new home could offer players more opportunities to experiment with different decoration styles.
Beyond the major additions, Update 52 will include several smaller improvements that should make everyday gameplay more convenient.
- Minimap: A new minimap feature will provide additional navigation assistance while exploring.
- Expanded Companion Customization: Players will have more options for adjusting their companions.
- Scribing Support in Armory: Scribing will receive support in the Armory system, improving build management.
- Guild Management Updates: Players will be able to reorder their guilds, and a confirmation step will be added when leaving a guild.
- Extended Post-Dungeon Timer: The timer after completing a dungeon will be extended, giving players more time before leaving the instance.
With Update 52 arriving on January 19, 2027, and Season Three following on January 27, players have several new features to anticipate. These changes could make the next stage of ESO more engaging for both longtime adventurers and returning players.
